More and more people across the nation are turning to distance learning options. It seems that distance learning is going to be a crucial part of the educational system moving forward. Some teachers are thriving in this environment and others are struggling to connect with students. Read on to learn more about how to build a rapport with distance learning students.

Spend Time with Students

Of course, one of the best ways to build a rapport with a student is to just give it time. The more you spend time with a student the better and you should always try to be there for your class. You can come to understand the needs of the student in question and you’ll be able to better educate them. Treat each student as an individual and try to help them with the things that they need help with.

Give Feedback Without Judgment

There are some situations where teachers will have problems with students because they give feedback too harshly. This can sometimes cause students to withdraw and stop engaging with learning. You want the students to get better and you might need to improve how you’re delivering feedback. Try to give feedback without a judgmental tone and do your best to nurture students.

Praise Students When it’s Earned

Students will sometimes do exceptional work and they deserve to be praised when this happens. If a student overcomes a hurdle that has been holding them back, then you should be quick to praise that student. Kind words of praise can help to boost a student’s overall confidence. You should be ready to praise students when they make positive moves forward in their educational journeys.

Encourage Collaboration

Distance learning can sometimes feel a bit too isolated and some students will struggle in this environment. If you can encourage collaboration with other students, then this can help with social issues. Try to let kids work together on problems sometimes, since they can gain a lot from the experience. It might help some kids to open up more and this will improve your relationship with the students as well.
